We found a little turtle,
his name is Tiny Tim
We put him in a bucket
to see if he could swim
The rest of the song becomes inaccurate at this point, but yes, we now own a turtle, and no he's not the greatest swimmer.
It all started a few months back when there was some crazy monsoon weather going on. Kevin went to get something from his mom's house, and as he was driving on her street saw a turtle crossing the road. There was no one around, and he figured it was going to get run over sooner or later, so he put it in a container and brought it home. He also named "it" Tiny Tim. Very original. I wanted Speedy II after my childhood pet turtle, and the girls wanted Scooby Doo, but the turtle rescuer called it.
That day we called around to some neighbors who live right by the turtles whereabouts, but no one seemed to be missing a boxer turtle. So it's been in our backyard, and I've been feeding it cantaloupe, bananas, grapes and strawberries, and I water it every day....like a plant. It's funny to me that Kevin and I both had a turtle at some point growing up, and it came into our possession by just showing up at our doorstep one day. Apparently that is what they do.
So far the family seems to like him.
Here is Dallin doing the "turtle walk" with him on the back patio.
We tried racing them, but the turtle was much faster then the baby.
Here is Brooke showing us why Tiny Tim is called a "boxer" turtle.
They are quite good at boxing themselves in as a defense mechanism.
And here is Kevin showing us how turtle can be made into a delicious barbecued entree with the right seasonings and marinades
JUST KIDDING!
although Kevin was served some turtle soup on his mission in Kentucky.
Tiny Tim seems OK with us kidnapping/adopting him, although he spends most of the day shoved in a corner in our backyard. When the weather acts up, he will start roaming around the yard, but other then that he's a pretty docile creature. I don't really know what to expect with turtles and turtle management, but so far things are going just dandy.

I think it's funny that our turtle was named Slowy, and your was apparently Speedy. :)
This is going to be one of those memories your kids will talk about when they grow up. I can't believe Dallin is already so big!
